Chair of the All Wales Convention
Sir Emyr Jones Parry has been appointed as the Chair of the All Wales Convention. He is keen to hear the views and opinions of all those across Wales who have an interest in the question of full law making powers, and wants to involve as many people as possible.
A native of Carmarthenshire, Sir Emyr was educated at Gwendraeth Grammar School, Cardiff University, where he read Theoretical Physics, and the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge University where he gained a PhD in Polymer Physics. He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1973 and has held posts in Canada, at the UK Representation to the European Union, at the European Parliament, and in Madrid.
Following periods as the European Union Director and then Political Director in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, in 2001 he was appointed UK Permanent Representative on the North Atlantic Council. This was followed by a period as UK Permanent Representative to the UN, New York, a post which he held from 2003 to July 2007. Sir Emyr is also the President of the University of Aberystwyth.
