Back to School!
He had promised to make the visit after youngsters at Caegarw Primary School, Mountain Ash, sent him a project in 2007 when he was working as the UK ambassador to the United Nations in New York.
Sir Emyr had attended Caegarw Primary School when he lived there in the 1950s, passing his 11+ to gain a place at Mountain Ash Grammar School – although he never went there as his family moved back to Hendy, West Wales.
The project sent over to New York by pupils in the Autumn of 2007 included photos and other items from the time he attended classes there between 1953 and 1958.
Sir Emyr was very touched, and wrote to them to thank them and say that he’d like to visit the school sometime – a promise he is honouring on Friday!
Whilst there, he will also talk to pupils about his current job heading up the All Wales Convention, which is responsible for assessing whether people in Wales want the Assembly to have more law-making powers.
